Association of non-governmental organisations in Zanzibar (ANGOZA) convened the 13th edition of the Annual Civil Society Forum in the Isles. The forum was held from November 26 to 27, 2019. The Forum is a platform for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), private sector, Government officials, academicians, research institutions and citizens at large through their development committees to meet and discuss critical issues around development in the Isles. This year’s annual forum focused on the ‘’Role of CSOs in enhancing democracy and development initiatives in Zanzibar”.
The objective of this year’s annual gathering was to make use of platforms for interaction and strategising on issues that affect democracy and development through dialogue between Government and CSOs, platforms such as this contribute towards growth and development.The results of the forum are useful to ANGOZA as a national umbrella in Zanzibar to ensure CSOs views are represented in diverse platforms concerned with policy and national development.
The Deputy Speaker for the House of Representative, Hon Mgeni Hassan Juma attended the event on the second day and praised ANGOZA for hosting the event. She further commended Foundation for Civil Society for facilitating the event in Zanzibar. “The Election Commission and the Planning Commission in Zanzibar on the behalf of the government in Zanzibar is keen on strengthening partnerships with CSOs especially in development issues hence the CSO forum is an avenue for CSOs and Government to build and strengthen their partnerships. I would also like to commend FCS for supporting CSOs in Zanzibar in implementing their interventions in bringing development in Zanzibar, I urge you to continue supporting these organizations as their contribution is highly valued by the government and citizen.
